50-million-dollar trade finance line from EBRD to Şekerbank

Şekerbank becomes the first bank in Turkey that European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provides a loan under its Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP). EBRD started offering TFP in Turkey after 23 other countries they operate in. Having 61 years of strong experience in commercial banking, Şekerbank will support the export and import companies in Anatolia with this 50-million-dollar loan.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has signed a 50-million-dollar loan agreement with Şekerbank to support foreign trade in Turkey under its Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP). Şekerbank becomes the first issuing bank in Turkey under the TFP Program. Şekerbank has been supporting its customers for 61 years with its ‘Community Banking’ approach. This new facility will help Şekerbank expand its offerings to its customers. 

The Trade Facilitation Programme covers over 100 issuing banks in 23 countries where EBRD operates and over 800 confirming banks across the world. The TFP is offered first time in Turkey through Şekerbank. EBRD has been supporting international trade financing with its program since 1999.

Zeki Önder: “We support Anatolian SMEs”

Zeki Önder, Şekerbank’s Executive Vice President/Financial Institutions has underlined that they reach many exporter and importer SMEs across Turkey, thanks to their know how and widespread branch network in Anatolia , and expressed Şekerbank’s satisfaction about being the first bank in Turkey under EBRD’s program . Önder also said, “We continue to support our clients through almost 1 billion dollar funding we received from international markets . In recent years, we have established sound relations with EBRD using various products they offer to Turkish market. This new loan will help us strengthen our relations with EBRD and help us further improve our offerings to our clients who are active in international trade ".

Michael Davey: “Turkey's foreign trade will improve with this loan”

EBRD Turkey Director Michael Davey said the following: "We are glad that Şekerbank has become the first issuing bank in Turkey in EBRD’s Trade Facilitation Programme. EBRD’s new facility will help Şekerbank to support its customers, and this will improve Turkey's foreign trade".

Second loan provided by EBRD to Şekerbank this month...

Recently, Şekerbank received a total loan of $60-million to finance energy efficiency investments, of which $48-million was granted by EBRD and $12-million by Clean Technology Fund (CTF). This was EBRD’s first loan to Turkey under its special program, i.e. “Turkey Residential Energy Efficiency Finance Facility (TuREEFF) program”. With this facility, Şekerbank aims boosting energy efficiency investments like insulation, use of solar energy, and waste water management for the residential buildings, condominiums and companies.
